I love creative embroidery and recently found a framer who has an ebay store.
I am delighted with the frame he made for me.

Here is a small tour of some of my work:
DINKY
My first attempt at long and short, using wool on heavy fabric, resulted in this. It was issued to me on arrival at class along with a frame and yarn. I hated it. The design had to be drawn on to the fabric using a light table. I use a window now... much easier than bending double. I couldn't believe I was expected to create a piece of art from this hideous old fashioned design. Even when it was finished I couldn't bear to look at it and it faced the wall for a long time. Now I realise what an excellent learning experience it was.

MOUNTAIN RETREAT
This is an early piece worked entirely in cross stitch, except for outlining. I used a photograph as a basis for the design, but changed some of the shapes to be more dramatic. The yarn is stranded cotton in 2 strands and the fabric is 16HPI aida. The purpose was to practise using colour for landscapes. The monotony of cross stitch was easily outweighed by the excitement of using strong colour to create the shadows and highlights.

CHINESE PANEL
I worked at this piece on and off for about a year. I used stranded cotton and other shiny yarns on heavy fabric. I followed the traditional Chinese format of each scene telling a story and flowing into the next. I experimented with a large variety of stitches although you can't see that here.

Stitch detail

My best wool work.
This piece is about texture...see the stich detail, please.

I tried to use a different stitch each time. It was hard to decide which stitch would be appropriate to achieve the texture I wanted.

You can see the details clearly with my new camera.

I enjoyed working with the stone colours.

I used long and short and tried to make my stitches look like feathers. The colours of these birds are fantastic.

This is my most recent project. I used stranded cotton for most of the work and thatched the roof with wool. I also used wool to make a crunchy hedge in the foreground.

It took a very long time to complete the details on the house. I couched all the bricks and thoroughly enjoyed the roof.

I was pleased with the tree tops. I must be more observant than I thought. LOL.

It was fun making flowers in the distance and using lots of colour.

I know that I must bring colour forward.... and I spend ages thinking about it.

I make a crunchy hedge with wool, again using lots of colours to create depth.

I try to give the work perspective.... but it's better seen from a distance LOL.

Work in progress...still had lots to do....
This is the first stage of painting my giant tigger in my hallway.
